Billingham Stars presentation night was attended by over 130 players, fans and club officials. In a glitzy night, the club presented awards and expressed its thanks to everyone involved on and off the ice.

Along with presentations, the club confirmed the retirement of James McCabe and Rich Griffiths, who both have decided to hang up their skates as this season closes. James was a product of the Billingham junior development program and went on to make in excess of 200 appearances for the Eagles, Bombers and Stars senior sides including a number of U-19 GB caps. James enjoyed league and play-off championship success in 2005-06 and 2011-12. Netminder Rich Griffiths came to Billingham with brother Tom Griffiths. Richard made over 90 appearances for the Stars and alongside James McCabe he enjoyed league and play-off championship success in 2005-06 before a move to Nottingham university took him to Nottingham Lions where he made over a 100 starts, including the 2007-08 play-offs.

Presentation night also saw sponsors presented with shirts and sticks by the players.

Both Terry Ward and Simon Leach praised the effort of the players throughout the whole season and thanked the fans for their superb support throughout the season.

Director and Team Manager Allen Flavell felt that hockey fans at Billingham had seen a great season:

“We have played some good hockey this season, exciting close games and the atmosphere on game nights has been amazing. Although we didn’t repeat the success of our inaugural season you have to look at the improvements around the league. We should be proud of our efforts – second place in all competitions is a fantastic achievement. Tonight is our way of thanking everyone for their efforts this season, which has proven that the NIHL just gets stronger and stronger.”
